Two people are reported dead after a small airplane crashed in woods near the coast in south Alabama.

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that an aircraft went down Tuesday night near Stapleton. News outlets reported that it took crews a couple hours to reach the crash site, and that two people died.

Authorities haven’t released the names of the victims, and federal investigators will determine the cause of the crash.

A flight-tracking website shows the airplane took off from Jack Edwards National Airport in Gulf Shores minutes before it went down in a wooded area. The plane had flown to the coast from the airport in Muscle Shoals on Sunday.
