A reported burglary at an Alabama home led to the arrest of a man accused of killing his girlfriend, officials said.

Michael Gene Bolin, 38, was set to have his initial appearance Friday, Walker County District Attorney Bill Adair told reporters Thursday morning.

Stacey Hogan, 50, also known as Stacey Campbell, was found dead at her home near Parrish on Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff’s Investigator Carl Carpenter said at the news conference.

Witness statements contradicted Bolin’s initial statement to officials, according to Carpenter.

“(We) found out that he had gotten into a physical altercation with her the night before he left the residence, and when he returned, he found her deceased,” Carpenter said.

Results of an autopsy were pending but investigators believe Hogan died from blunt force trauma, Carpenter said. He also said there was a history of domestic violence between Bolin and Hogan.

Bolin was booked into jail in Walker County. It was unclear whether he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
