Alabama Public Health officials announce Sunday afternoon that 12 Alabama residents had tested positive for the COVID-19, coronavirus.

Six cases were reported on Friday. One of those cases was removed from the total number as the patient was from another state and returned to that state, Alabama Public Health officials said Sunday.

“At this time we are only reporting lab-confirmed cases,” the department wrote in a social media post. “We have temporarily removed the number of total tests because we have test numbers arriving from multiple different sources, including commercial labs.

“Our current plan is to resume posting these numbers when the logistics of this can be fully coordinated.”

Health officials suggest taking the necessary precautions to help limit the spread of COVID-19 which include:

  • Washing your hands for at least 20 seconds and frequently
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with your arm
  • Avoiding touching your face
  • Routinely clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces
  • Avoiding close contact with others
  • And staying home if you are sick
