An Alabama man was arrested over the weekend after police say he shot his girlfriend in the eye.

Dothan police were called to South East Health after the gunshot victim arrived. There they found a female who had been shot in the eye.

After investigating the matter, police determined the perpetrator was William Woods, 33, who was the boyfriend of the victim. The pair had been in an altercation when the shooting occurred.

Police arrested Woods and charged him with first degree domestic violence. He was being held on $60,000 bond.

The victim was flown to the University of Alabama – Birmingham hospital for additional treatment. Police reports the victim was expected to recover.
